MW Dentistry & Esthetics can replace a missing tooth or teeth with dental implants, dentures, or bridges. A dental bridge is similar to a partial denture, only it is secured in place. A traditional bridge holds one or more pontics (false teeth), between crowns that are affixed to adjacent teeth or dental implants.
While dental implants are the most durable and long-lasting form of dental prosthetic, bridges are more affordable. If you’re unsure which tooth replacement solution is right for you, we can explain all of the options available to you.
The Dental Bridge Procedure
The dental bridge process requires two or more appointments. At the first appointment, we shape the teeth that will attach to the crowns. We then take a mold that we send to a lab, where the crowns and pontic are made. When the bridge is ready (usually in about two weeks), we attach it. A follow-up appointment may be necessary to check or adjust the fit.
Front Tooth Replacement
When patients lose a front tooth, they may not want to wait two weeks or more for a bridge. A Maryland Bridge is another option for replacing a front tooth.
This type of bridge (named for the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where it originated) contains one pontic between two “wings” that attach to the back of adjacent teeth. The prosthetic is simpler, so it typically takes only about a week to prepare, and the adjacent teeth don’t need to be shaped.
