Diabetes, osteoporosis, and iron deficiency are just three of the conditions dentists can detect when examining patients. That’s one reason why regular, preventive dental care is so important.
At MW Dentistry & Esthetics, we emphasize the fact that preventive care is more than just your annual dental cleaning. It’s an ongoing relationship between doctor and patient that allows us to detect potential health risks and prevent dental illnesses. If it’s been a while since you’ve seen a dentist, we encourage you to schedule an exam at our office.
About Dental Cleaning and Preventive Care
Many insurers cover two preventive visits per year. Regular cleaning removes plaque and tartar from the teeth that can lead to tooth decay or gum disease and keeps teeth looking clean. At your routine exam, we may recommend specific actions for improving or maintaining your dental health, such as switching to a different type of toothbrush or adding a supplemental nutrient to your diet.
What to Expect
A routine preventive care visit involves a basic exam and cleaning. If we discover any cavities or other issues that require additional treatment, we may be able to treat those issues during your preventive care visit, or we may recommend scheduling another appointment.
Perio scaling or root planing – a procedure that involves a thorough cleaning below the gum line – would necessitate one or more additional appointments. (In other words, you don’t have to worry about coming in for a routine cleaning and ending up sitting in the exam room for hours).
Do What’s Best for Your Health
We understand that visiting the dentist’s office isn’t everyone’s favorite activity. Often, it’s the fear of judgment that keeps people from getting the care they need. At MW Dentistry & Esthetics, we offer a non-judgmental and supportive environment – and we don’t lecture our patients, we provide guidance.
